How it works
Detour Club combines deeply curated local knowledge with natural-language AI to build the ultimate discovery engine.
"Quiet cafe with fast wifi where locals work" or "Best street food under $3 near a BTS station"
Our Discovery Assistant searches our human-verified database of locally curated spots โ no hallucinations, no fabricated places โ and surfaces the best match in seconds.
Add spots to lists, mark where you've been, and access everything offline. No roaming needed.
Describe what you want in plain English. The AI matches your mood, dietary needs, and group size.
Every listing is verified by a human, with a vibe summary, insider tips, rain-friendly and work-friendly tags, and everything you need before you show up.
Saved lists, visited marks, and place details work offline. Map coordinates included.

What travelers say
"Used it for 3 days in Istanbul. Found a hammam that no English blog has ever mentioned. The offline mode saved me when my Turkish SIM died."
"Spent 20 minutes in Detour Club the week before my Kyoto trip instead of reading 30 blog posts. Landed with a list of 40 spots โ a machiya cafe, a ceramics workshop, and a garden nobody else had heard of."
"Took 4 friends to Bangkok. We found a rooftop with zero tourist menus, a night market not on any blog, and a vintage clothing market hidden in a lane. None of it from Google Maps."

FAQ
Google Maps ranks by SEO and ad spend. TripAdvisor is gamed by paid reviews. We only feature places that have been hand-picked by locals or verified by our community of independent travelers. Zero affiliate deals, zero sponsored placements.
We're live in 11 cities: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Istanbul, Kyoto, Tokyo, Mumbai, Osaka, Phuket, and Singapore. Each has a growing collection of hand-curated spots, with more cities on the way.
Yes. Your saved lists, visited marks, and place details (including GPS coordinates) are cached locally. The AI Discovery Assistant needs internet, but everything else works fully offline.
Absolutely. Both the Explorer Pass and Trip Pass can be cancelled anytime through the App Store or Google Play. No questions asked, no hoops to jump through. Your saved lists stay with you even after cancellation.
Every spot in our database is either submitted by a verified local contributor or discovered and validated by our community of travelers. We actively reject any place that pays for placement. We also encourage users to submit their own discoveries so the database keeps growing organically.
Detour Club is currently app-only (iOS and Android). The app is built around offline access and on-the-go discovery, which is best experienced on your phone. A web version is on our roadmap.
Continuously. Our network of local contributors and community travelers submit and verify new spots on an ongoing basis. Explorer Pass members also receive a notification when a meaningful batch of new places drops for a city they've explored.
Yes, and we encourage it. Inside the app you can submit any place you find worthy. Our editorial team reviews every submission before it goes live. If your spot makes the cut, you'll get credit as the discoverer on the listing.
Both. Solo travelers love the AI search for its ability to match very specific moods ("solo-friendly bar where I can meet locals"). Groups benefit from the shared list feature: one person curates, everyone sees the plan. The AI also takes group size and dietary mix into account when you tell it.
You can flag any listing directly in the app with a single tap. Our team reviews flags within 48 hours and either updates or removes the place. We'd rather have a smaller, accurate list than a large, stale one.
